Ben T. Traywick was born in Watertown, Tennessee. He was sixteen when World War II was in its second year. Ben joined the Navy. Little did he know what the future held, but by the time World War II ended, not only had he gotten a painful education about the horrors of war, he had also received eleven battlestars.

   The subject of this volume, Nellie Cashman, was one of the greatest frontierswomen in American history. She possessed courage and determination equal to that of any man and, at the same time, exemplified the femininity so necessary in helping to form a more civilized and cultured society.

   This is a biography of one of the greatest, if not the greatest, frontier marshals in western history, William "Bill" Tilghman. His law enforcement career spanned virtually 50 years and he, and those of his ilk, made the settling of the American West somewhat easier, and certainly much safer for the decent, hard working settlers.

   This book represents the town's greatest years. It contains the information asked for by many of the six hundred thousand tourists who visit Tombstone every year. The contents make reference to the many people who settled here, all of whom played an important part in the settling of not only Arizona but of our great western frontier.

   Not nearly enough has been written about the Jewish pioneers and their many contributions to settling and civilizing the Arizona Territory. A tome could be written, but this volume is an abbreviated account of these outstanding pioneers.
   The author has endeavored to focus on the good, the bad and those somewhere in between. There were few in the second category, and those in the third were not far from the top and represented a positive force.
   They were all part of our past and we must not forget them, for they are linked always to our future, and remembering them helps protect the future.

   Luther S. "Yellowstone" Kelly was a contemporary of "Wild Bill" Hickok and "Buffalo Bill" Cody, yet comparatively little is know about him. He was, indeed, one of our great frontiersmen, and in 1921 General Nelson Miles paid tribute to Kelly in a letter that confirms this.
   Luther S. "Yellowstone" Kelly's great service was that of helping to prepare the west for an advancing civilization.
